FROM THE FIELD NOTES
KRILLION ∞ · THE DIVER’S HANDBOOK
Seven prompts. Twenty-five seconds. An ocean of possible answers.
Krillion is an open-answer trivia game with an ocean-sized twist: knowing a correct answer is only the beginning. A Krillion prompt can have many accepted responses, and the challenge is to choose one that feels less obvious. Krillion Unlimited brings that Krillion experience to an independent, open-source browser game. You read a category, recall something that belongs, and watch your answer take you below the surface. There are no multiple-choice clues to narrow the field. Your own knowledge supplies the answer, while the ocean turns its rarity into a journey.
Begin a Krillion game with the descent button on the title screen. You do not need an account or a download to play Krillion Unlimited. The Krillion daily dive contains seven prompts, presented in order, with a short reading preview before each answering window. Your first Krillion prompt might concern food, animals, geography, entertainment, science, or another broad category. Read its exact wording before deciding what to type. If a category adds a condition, such as a four-letter name or a particular award, that condition matters just as much as the general subject.
Each Krillion round begins with a three-second preview so you can read before typing. Then the Krillion timer gives you twenty-five seconds to submit one answer. The countdown and shrinking time bar show how much thinking time remains. The final seconds become more urgent through color and sound. Krillion Unlimited keeps the input near the bottom of the screen, leaving the category readable above it. A Krillion landing screen has no answering timer: after your score appears, you can read the feedback at your own pace before choosing to continue.
A valid Krillion answer must fit the complete category and match an entry in that puzzle's accepted set. Specificity helps only when the answer still belongs. A Krillion prompt about countries is not asking for a city, and a question about chemical symbols may restrict which elements count. Krillion Unlimited checks answers on its own server against the available puzzle snapshot. If a Krillion response is rejected, you can try another before the timer finishes. Rejection uses time, but it does not automatically turn the whole round into a miss.
Krillion answers occupy six tiers with fixed point values. Plankton earns ten points, Too Clever fifteen, Schooler thirty, Rare sixty, Deep Cut eighty-five, and One in a Krillion one hundred. A blank or unaccepted Krillion answer earns zero. These levels describe the puzzle's prepared answer classifications; they are not a promise about the number of people who will type an answer today. Krillion Unlimited shows your Krillion tier after each accepted submission, along with the points earned and the extra metres added to your descent. The same recognized entry keeps its configured score.
The Too Clever tier gives Krillion its particular sense of humor. Sometimes the supposedly obscure answer is exactly the one that many trivia fans reach for. In Krillion, recognizing that trap is part of the challenge. You do not need to pick something implausibly remote, but it helps to move beyond an answer that is famous specifically for sounding unusual. Krillion Unlimited preserves this six-tier Krillion structure. A confident, correct answer can be more rewarding than a complicated guess that falls outside the category, even when the guess initially sounds more impressive.
One in a Krillion is the designated gem of a category. It awards one hundred points, but the reference game's gem is selected partly for the satisfaction of discovering it, rather than obscurity alone. Some Deep Cut entries can therefore be less familiar than the Krillion answer. Think of a Krillion gem as a memorable destination, not the output of a universal rarity survey. When available in the puzzle data, Krillion Unlimited displays a short explanatory detail after landing on that answer. These little facts give the deepest discoveries a reason to stay with you.
Every Krillion point adds ten metres to the dive. A sixty-point Rare answer therefore adds six hundred metres; a hundred-point Krillion gem adds a thousand. Seven perfect answers produce seven hundred points and a final depth of seven thousand metres. Krillion Unlimited accumulates depth across the entire Krillion game, so later prompts begin below the water you have already crossed. The right-hand depth ruler, the changing sea color, and the creatures drifting past all help make this arithmetic visible. You are building one continuous descent through seven decisions, rather than seven disconnected scores.
Krillion categories often contain unfamiliar names, accents, and alternate spellings. Krillion Unlimited normalizes capitalization, punctuation, and accented characters, then uses available aliases and conservative typo matching. A proposed Krillion correction appears before it is scored when correction previews are enabled. Read the replacement carefully: a nearby spelling may identify something other than your intended answer. Submit again to confirm, or edit while time remains. This independent Krillion implementation does not claim identical coverage of every alias or matching edge case in the original game. Accepted-answer review helps explain what the current snapshot recognizes.
An empty Krillion answer at the end of the timer earns zero points and continues to feedback. When text remains in the input, Krillion Unlimited checks that final Krillion response automatically. A valid response can still score; an unrecognized one becomes a miss. Keeping a sensible answer in the box is useful while considering an alternative. Once a Krillion answer has been accepted and scored, it is locked for that round. You then choose when to descend to the next category. A dropped connection should show a retry message instead of inventing a successful score.
After the seventh Krillion round, choose Surface to return from the deep. The Krillion results page brings together your total points, final depth, overall tier, and a seven-round dive chart. Each marker corresponds to one of your answers, making strong discoveries and missed opportunities easy to spot. Krillion Unlimited also lets you expand individual Krillion categories and inspect their available accepted answers by score. The overall rating uses total-score bands, while the answer list preserves the individual rarity tiers. These are related views of the same dive, not separate scoring systems.
A Krillion result can be compared with completed daily dives recorded on this website. Krillion Unlimited's score distribution belongs to Krillion Unlimited players; it is not copied from the original Krillion community. Practice runs and development checks do not belong in the daily comparison population. If there are not enough Krillion results for a meaningful graph, the page explains that more dives are needed instead of showing fabricated numbers. The percentile describes this site's observed scores for that puzzle. It should be read as a small community comparison, not a worldwide measure of trivia knowledge.
The Krillion daily schedule follows midnight in New York. That corresponds to different UTC hours as daylight saving time changes. Krillion Unlimited uses that same timezone boundary for its Krillion date and next-dive countdown. Everyone on this website sees the same published daily categories, while local midnight on your device does not create a second challenge. Your completed Krillion daily dive remains available for review. Practice lets you explore the format again without changing your daily result. If reference synchronization is unavailable, the site identifies its sample practice content rather than silently promising a fresh official puzzle.
Krillion Unlimited keeps your Krillion preferences and a local copy of completed dives in browser storage. The service uses a random browser identifier to resume server-side game progress. A Krillion streak counts consecutive completed daily dates, not the number of practice games played in one sitting. Archive-style review and repeated practice do not extend it. Your Krillion history can be lost from the device when browser site data is cleared, and this release does not offer a Google account or cross-device history service. The logbook describes what is stored and provides a local-history export.
A Krillion share result uses your score, depth, and a row of tier emoji. It leaves the actual answers out so friends can still attempt the categories themselves. Krillion Unlimited offers a copy button and uses your browser's share interface when available. Sharing a Krillion result never requires the game to post to a social account on your behalf. You choose where to paste or send it. The optional website link makes it easier for someone else to start their own Krillion dive. Clipboard access depends on browser support and a secure connection.
The atmosphere of Krillion comes from more than its background. Bubbles, fish silhouettes, a floating companion, tier sounds, and descending tones make each answer feel physical. Krillion Unlimited synthesizes its Krillion sound effects in the browser after a user interaction, and the mute button remains available during play. Low-power mode reduces decorative work; reduced-motion preferences suppress unnecessary movement; colorblind mode separates the Krillion tier colors and improves contrast. Typed answers work with Enter as well as the submit button. Settings use native keyboard-accessible controls, and important feedback is also exposed as text.
The Krillion interface adapts to a narrow screen by reducing title size, keeping the category card readable, and placing the answer controls within reach. Krillion Unlimited avoids placing its long Krillion guide over an active round unless you deliberately open it. Close the guide to return to the game. Mobile keyboards can change the available viewport, so the layout accounts for visible screen height and safe-area spacing. Your Krillion browser should remain in the foreground while answering. A desktop browser with a physical keyboard offers the same rules and scoring, with more space for the ocean scenery.
Start a Krillion category by finding one safe answer. Then ask whether a second or third option is both correct and less automatic. Specialized knowledge is useful in Krillion when it fits the wording precisely: a real dish, a qualifying athlete, or an accepted team name beats an invented rarity. Do not spend the whole Krillion timer searching for a perfect gem when a good valid answer is ready. Read correction previews, preserve enough time to submit, and use answer review afterward to learn the category. Practice is for curiosity as much as improvement; every unexpected entry can teach something.
Krillion Unlimited is an independent Krillion-inspired project, not the official Krillion website. The public GitHub repository contains the runnable application code under the MIT license, development instructions, and example configuration. Private credentials, production player records, and infrastructure secrets are excluded. A self-hosted Krillion installation can run locally with SQLite-compatible D1 storage and use Cloudflare Workers with D1 and R2 in production. Live reference puzzle snapshots are separate from the application code license and are not bundled as a proprietary source-code copy. The repository explains which sample content is included and how reference synchronization works.
This release of Krillion Unlimited offers its implemented Krillion daily and practice games without checkout, subscriptions, or credits. There are no image-generation models or paid AI tools behind the Krillion answer box. The AI and Agent Docs links describe the actual site's features and limits in readable text. External AI buttons carry an optional question to a third-party service; they do not guarantee an answer, citation, or recommendation. For a Krillion implementation problem, use the public repository's issue tracker without posting personal information. To begin again, close this guide and return to the ocean: seven categories are waiting.
